FootPlus: from single-device app to full hospital patient platform
A subscription-based patient management platform for iivHealth's hospital and doctor network: PAD (Peripheral Artery Disease) screening, live vitals, patient onboarding and reporting.

Problem
Bluetooth pairing was unreliable, there was no way to bill hospitals on a subscription, and patient data lived nowhere structured.
What I did
As the sole designer, I mapped roles and access, interviewed doctors and designed the full platform in Figma: onboarding, vitals, PAD test, wallet, reports and offline sync.
Result
A platform far bigger than the original single-device brief. Select features were built as an MVP and demonstrated to iivHealth.
The problem
The original device app could not support a real business.
-
Bluetooth pairing with the FootPlus device was unreliable, delaying tests
-
No system existed to bill hospitals and doctors on a subscription basis
-
Patient records, vitals and test data lived nowhere. There was no structured way to capture or review them
-
Hospitals often had patchy connectivity, so data needed to save offline and sync later
Doctors wanted something faster and easier to use, not one more slow, frustrating tool getting in the way of patient care.
User need
Goals and users
Built for hospital doctors and staff, plus admins who review aggregate reports.
Primary users. Hospital doctors and staff (for example at Fortis Hospital) using FootPlus for PAD screening, subscribed through iivHealth, plus hospital admins reviewing aggregate reports.
Approach. I started in FigJam, mapping clinical workflows with input from doctors who had used FootPlus. As requirements grew, I restructured the scope into a full subscription platform: onboarding, vitals, testing, billing and reporting. Then I moved into Figma for wireframes, a component system and high-fidelity screens. Select features were developed by the team for an MVP demo.
Fix device connection reliability
Bluetooth delays were slowing down real tests.
Enable subscription billing
Hospitals and doctors needed a clear way to pay for access.
Unify patient data in one place
Vitals, records and test results were scattered.
My role
Sole designer on a small cross-functional team: CTO, 2 to 3 developers and a project manager, all part-time alongside their main roles. 24 weeks.
Discovery and decisions
-
Mapped the role hierarchy and access rights across Partners, Hospitals and Donors
-
Built personas (Super Admin, General Practitioner) from stakeholder interviews
-
Interviewed doctors who had tested the FootPlus device for PAD screening
Design and delivery
-
Designed the full platform in Figma: onboarding, vitals, PAD test flow, questionnaire, reports, wallet and offline sync
-
Designed the subscription and wallet billing flow
-
Designed the reporting dashboard (demographics, BMI, blood sugar, BP, PAD summaries)
Research
I interviewed doctors who had used FootPlus for PAD screening, and mapped stakeholders across iivHealth's Partner, Hospital and Donor network.
-
Bluetooth pairing delays were a repeated frustration before a test could even start
-
Doctors wanted live feedback during the test, not just a result at the end
-
Fragmented tools slowed real clinical workflows
-
Hospitals had no visibility into aggregate trends, only individual patient data

The solution
These features turned a single-device app into a connected, subscription-ready patient platform.
Redesigned Bluetooth pairing
-
A clear device selection and connection status screen before testing
-
Addresses the pairing delays flagged in research

Outcomes
Delivered as an MVP. Select features were developed and demonstrated to iivHealth, and the engagement ended when the company faced financial setbacks, ahead of full rollout.
A bigger scope, designed end to end
The full platform was designed in Figma, well beyond the original single-device brief.
Two clear pain points addressed
The Bluetooth and offline-sync flows target the two clearest, confirmed problems from research.
Billing and visibility
The wallet and reporting gave iivHealth a working answer to billing and hospital-level visibility, the base of their planned subscription business.
